Odds and ends

  • Politico: Senator Marco Rubio lands a contract for his autobiography.

  • Granma: Interior Ministry Col. Mario Mendoza, head of the National Department of Vehicle Registration, says that more than 14,000 vehicles have been registered since the purchase and sale of cars was permitted. (This is the prerequisite to selling a car.) There have been 3,310 sales and 994 donations of vehicles.

  • EFE: Human rights monitor Elizardo Sanchez says that 257 political activists were arrested, detained, and released last month. He also reports 100 arrests in eastern Cuba in the first five days of December; see the Herald’s report of dissidents’ accounts. Sanchez counts 70 prisoners serving sentences or awaiting trial for “crimes against the state.”
