Quotable

“Cuban Americans are the most loyal Republican voters and we could easily be said to be the only solid, dependable bloc of voters for the GOP, so to get shafted by the GOP is not a good feeling and it makes it difficult for us to go back home and justify what has happened up here.”

— Straight talk from House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairwoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, following the defeat of Rep. Diaz-Balart’s amendment that would have re-imposed Bush Administration restrictions on Cuban American family visits and remittances

Interesting. I guess the entire GOP foreign policy flank should reflect a small sliver of the US population.

Also, why must she lie. It should read:

“Cuban Americans [who emigrated here before late 1970s] are the most loyal Republican voters and we could easily be said to be the only solid, dependable bloc of vote..."

Its the babalu types who are the most loyal. Cuban Americans who have never been to Cuba (or decades ago).
-Who don't have close family on the island.
-Who wouldn't feel comfortable abroad, particularly in Latin America.
-Who generally don't speak Spanish fluently.
-Who probably won't feel comfortable in Cuba ever, regardless of the government, given their lack of cultural understanding/affinities for anything not American. [Look how much the babalu types condemn all Latin American and European countries and Canada. Basically, they seem to hate everyone who is not american (or Czech Republic or Israel]

Just some opinions.
